Job Overview
The Purchasing Supervisor will be responsible for the purchasing process, including cost containment, vendor relationship management and identification of new suppliers that will provide the best value to the Des Moines facility.

A Day In The Life
- Selects, develops, evaluates, and supervises Purchasing staff to insure appropriate assignment of work and completion of department deliverables. Provides training and guidance and advises subordinates as necessary.
- Negotiates with new and current vendors on an ongoing basis to ensure the best possible price and service guarantee for all goods and services. Represents company in negotiating contracts and formulating policies/ account/ credit terms with suppliers.
- Reviews requisitions to ensure appropriate approval, correct account numbers and conformance to company policies.
- Analyzes market and delivery systems in order to assess present and future material availability. Tracks and reports on market conditions and merchandise costs.
- Monitors vendor performance and quality addresses issues in a timely manner and seeks replacement sources for inadequate vendors.
- Works closely with Receiving Department to ensure that supplies arrive on time, traces delinquent arrivals through purchase orders, and arranges for the disposal of surplus/obsolete materials.
- Participates in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.
- Continually analyzes and evaluates existing process documentation and procedures; recommends and oversees process improvements.
- Identifies and resolves issues that arise relative to purchasing operations collaborating with other areas as appropriate (Manufacturing, Planning, Inventory Control, Quality, etc.).
- Assumes additional responsibilities as needed.
What will help you thrive in this role?
- 6-8 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Significant experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Requires excellent negotiating skills
- Must possess excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and SAP with a working knowledge of MRP/ERP software and concepts.
- Organizational skills for efficient office control are mandatory.
- Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Requires solid problem solving and decision-making skills
