Systems Control (a Hubbell, Inc. company) is looking for a Substation Engineer II to become a part of our Integrated Substation Solutions team. As a member of our Engineering Services Team, you will be responsible for creating substation drawing packages including one-line drawings, substation plan and elevation drawings, electrical assembly drawings, equipment manufacturing drawings, foundation and grounding plan drawings, conduit and cable routing plan drawings, cable schedules, bill of materials, and detailed electrical connection drawings.

A Day In The Life

  • Develop and modify the following engineering deliverables with minimal guidance:
    • Substations equipment and devices
    • Substation structures and/or modifications to existing steel structures
    • Substation Site Development Drawings (i.e. cable trenches, conduit sizing/routing, etc)
    • Detailed Substation Bill of Materials
    • Below grade and above grade drawing packages
    • General arrangement and elevation drawings
    • Equipment Manufacturer Drawings
    • Electrical One-Line Drawing
    • Electrical Bus and Conductor Sizing and Connections
    • Control Building Layouts
    • Foundation Plan Drawing and Design Review
    • Grounding Design & Analysis, and Connection
  • Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, transformer sizing, and lightning protection
  • Participate in training new hires in the following areas:
    • The fundamentals of Substation Design
    • Managing Substation Design projects
    • Provide general understanding of considerations of Station Design outside of Electrical portion
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes and design requirements such as National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC) and IEEE standards for substation bus design
  • Collaborate with protection and control engineering and structural engineering teams to implement their comments into design
  • Provide construction support and provide solutions to problems that arise during construction/installation

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent  Engineering Technology program
  • Minimum of five-year experience in the field of engineering disciplines as noted above
  • On track to obtain PE License in the U.S.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate technical details in a clear manner
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Project management experience with ability to assist in multi-team projects to completion
  • Ability to interpret requirements and application of company and industry standards, guidelines, and methods
