Job Overview
The Wastewater Treatment Technician is primarily responsible for the operation, monitoring, and optimization of the industrial and sanitary wastewater treatment systems onsite. This role requires technical aptitude to troubleshoot equipment and processes, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The technician also supports plant operations through data analysis, process improvements, and cross-functional collaboration. This role directly supports and reports to the Environmental, Health & Safety Supervisor.

A Day In The Life
- Serve as the primary operator for the industrial wastewater treatment system through daily management. The operator will be responsible for timely batch treatment of process wastewaters including associated equipment; filter press, muilti-media filter etc. The operator will work independently to monitor and adjust wastewater treatment systems to ensure efficient and compliant performance
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic repairs on treatment equipment and associated systems
- Troubleshoot system upsets, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Conduct laboratory testing (e.g., pH, solids, chemical levels) and interpret results to maintain process control
- Maintain accurate records of system performance, environmental data, and compliance documentation
- Serve as the primary Operator of Record for the onsite sanitary wastewater package plant to ensure efficient and compliant performance through daily management of systems, equipment and upkeep of the grounds
- Assist with environmental monitoring activities, including water sampling, meter readings, and emissions observations
- Handle and process waste materials in accordance with environmental and safety procedures
- Maintain and support auxiliary equipment, including forklifts and powered industrial vehicles
- Support the EHS Supervisor by assisting with safety related programs, inspections and training
- Maintain 5S standards and support overall plant housekeeping initiatives
- Collaborate with maintenance, production, and EHS teams to support plant operations
- Perform other duties as assigned

Technical Competencies
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process-related issues
- Basic understanding of wastewater treatment processes and chemical handling
- Ability to read gauges, meters, and technical data to make informed adjustments
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices
- Proficiency with basic computer systems for data entry and tracking
Qualifications
- Ohio EPA Water Reclamation (Formerly “Wastewater”) Class A operator license or higher
- Ohio EPA Water Supply Class A license or higher or the ability to obtain
- Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation habits
- Working familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software: Excel, Word etc.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Ability to work overtime and respond to operational needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industrial wastewater and/or sanitary wastewater treatment or similar technical role
- Environmental, biological or safety related degree is a plus
- Experience working in a wet lab
- Experience with pumps, valves, filtration systems, or chemical processes
- Licensed forklift operator
Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM during the week and treatment on Saturday.
- Flexibility required for weekends, overtime, and on-call support as needed
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs, pushing/pulling and working in confined or elevated spaces
- Ability to perform physical tasks in an industrial environment
Work Environment
- Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions, including heat, rain, humidity, cold, noise, and dust
- Work in proximity to chemicals, wastewater processes, and industrial equipment
