Position Overview

The VP – Commercial Operations, leads a team of commercial and technical specialists who manage complex customer contract proposals to support the company’s Orders and Revenue targets while protecting the company from commercial and technical risk through the execution of quality deals.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of proposal, contract and pricing professionals who exceed efficiency and deal closure goals.
  • Owns and drives the risk process for all HUS major proposals.
  • Leads the Go/No-Go review for RFP requests from Sales and associated initial opportunity risks and validation including sales entrenchment/position and sales strategy.
  • Assists in the evaluation of bid feasibility and compliance concerns with the support of cross-functional peers from Product Management and Engineering.
  • Drives consistent bidding, pricing and sales strategies across region and businesses for all major contract proposals.
  • Builds and maintains strong, positive relationships with HUS teams (internal and external) and its customers to ensure successful, results driven practices.
  • Leads team to handle pricing, terms & conditions, technical offering and associated approvals for major contract proposals.
  • Works to ensure proposal and pricing strategies align with the HUS product strategies.
  • Acts as a contracting specialist on both complex commercial items and legal  terms and conditions, with support from the Legal Team, including the negotiation of terms and conditions to close deals, as needed.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent related field/work experience, Master’s preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, verbal and written with preferred experience in technology proposal writing and/or technical writing.
  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary functions (engineering, sales, operations, etc.).
  • Strong business acumen with utility experience strongly preferred, particularly to support new and emerging utility technologies
  • 10 years of operational experience handling contract drafting and risk reviews.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in leading and developing a team of specialists.
  • Project Management and/or Sales (in related industries) experience.
  • Experience working in supporting substantive legal negotiations preferred.
  • Experience crafting, reviewing, and editing sophisticated proposals in response to RFP’s and RFI’s.
  • Less than 20% travel.
