Position Overview

The VP – Commercial Operations, leads a team of commercial and technical specialists who support the company’s Orders and Revenue targets while protecting from risk through the execution of quality deals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of proposal, contract and pricing professionals who exceed efficiency and deal closure goals.
  • Owns and drives the risk process for all HUS major proposals.
  • Leads the Go/No-Go review for RFP requests from Sales and associated initial opportunity risks and validation including sales entrenchment/position; sales strategy; account plans.
  • Evaluates bid feasibility and compliance concerns.
  • Drives consistent bidding, pricing and sales strategies across region and businesses.
  • Builds and maintains strong, positive relationships with HUS teams (internal and external) and its customers to ensure successful, results driven practices.
  • Drives team to handle pricing, terms & conditions, technical offerings and associated approvals.
  • Works to ensure proposal and pricing strategies align with the HUS product strategies.
  • Acts as a contracting specialist and consults on terms and conditions, with support from the Legal Team, including the negotiation of terms and conditions to close deals, as needed.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent related field/work experience, Master’s preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, verbal and written with preferred experience in technology proposal writing and/or technical writing.
  • Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary functions (engineering, sales, operations, etc.).
  • Good general eye for business: utility shown experience strongly preferred, particularly to support data communication projects and emerging utility technologies.
  • 5 years of operational experience handling contract drafting and risk reviews.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in leading and developing a team of specialists.
  • Project Management and/or Sales (in related industries) experience.
  • Experience working in a substantive legal position, preferred.
  • Experience crafting, reviewing, and editing sophisticated proposals in response to RFP’s and RFI’s.
  • Less than 20% travel.
