The Hubbell Internship Program is a 10 to 12-week program providing students the opportunity to gain corporate experience, learn about all aspects of our business, and prepare students with the kind of experience needed to have a rewarding career at Hubbell.                  

 

The Hubbell Engineering R&D team is seeking a graduate intern to perform numerical experiments for evaluating and refining cutting-edge approaches in information quantification and compression in high-dimensional spaces. 

Ideal candidates have deep understanding of concepts in probability, signal processing, and information theory, are comfortable with numerical/scientific computing in Python, and are generally strong in applied mathematics for information theory and compression.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • STEM major in graduate studies
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (required) 
  • Graduate research experience in information theory or a closely related topic
  • Experience with algorithms, object-oriented programming, and writing clean, modular code in Python
  • Experience with Python numerical libraries including NumPy and SciPy
  • Graduate-level coursework in the following topics –
  • Information theory
  • Signal and/or image processing
  • Probability and/or statistics
  • Pure or applied mathematics

 

Desired skills:
•    Coursework in data compression
•    Familiarity with statistical methods
•    Familiarity with machine learning algorithms
•    Advanced coursework in probability theory and/or statistical signal processing
•    Familiarity with electrical circuits
•    Familiarity with power systems
•    Industry work experience in research & development (R&D) in any industry through full-time employment or internships
 

Expectations: The intern will be expected to work full-time at 40 hours/week and will be compensated on an hourly basis.
Compensation Range: $22.50/hour - $29.00/hour (dependent upon graduation date)
