Job Overview

The HUS Director of Strategic Sourcing has two areas of responsibility across the four strategic business units of the Hubbell Utility Solutions Segment.   This role will have the responsibility for the direct spend on chemical-based commodities, castings, fabrications, forgings, stampings, electronics, custom hardware, plating / finishing, processed plastic, rubber and glass across the four strategic business units (Transmission and Distribution, Grid Automation, Specialty Infrastructure and Integrated Substation Solutions.  Secondly, this role will be responsible for developing and leading a suppler sole source de-risk strategy.  This position will report to the Senior Director, Sourcing HUS.

 

A Day In The Life

  • Familiarity of products, operational processes, and compliance requirements. 
  • Development of organization strategy for aggregating commodity purchases and selecting competitive sources.
  • Creation and management of short, mid, and long-term goals and objectives.  
  • Creation and improvement of best-practice-based processes
  • Management of business process outsourcing activities.  
  • Identification, tracking and realization of cost-saving and cost-reduction opportunities. 
  • Ownership for the productivity initiatives for cost out and value add and value engineering.
  • Manage direct reports in and across sourcing, contracting, supplier management, and miscellaneous internal procurement support activities.  
  • Development of benchmarks and scorecards to be used for continuous improvement.
  • Supply Chain Analysis
  • Create risk rating system to prioritize projects.
  • Lead/Support supplier sourcing, evaluation and selection, negotiation, performance monitoring, relationship management, and continuous improvement in support of managed projects.
  • Work closely with cross-functional leadership to develop and maintain risk reducing strategies.
  • Supervise and report on project strategies, supervising spend, business allocation, capability gap analysis and facilitate cross-functional review and evaluation.
  • Develop strategies for the mitigation of risk in the supply chain, overall and for specific new product programs.
  • Organize and lead regular strategic supplier business reviews.
  • Lead sourcing and negotiations, implementation of agreements and integration of key suppliers, performance monitoring, ongoing supplier contract management for assigned commodities on an as needed basis.
  • Generate and present project performance metrics to Leadership and project stakeholders.

Direct Spend: Direct day-to-day responsibility for managing and supporting the efforts of a Sourcing Manager responsible for their respective commodities.  This will include working with the internal Strategic Business Unit stakeholders on productivity improvement strategies as well as the ongoing Supply Chain performance management and improvement.

Supplier Risk Mitigation: Develop and execution of risk reducing direct material sourcing strategies for Hubbell Utility Solutions. Primary focus will be the review of casting, forging, stamping, electronics and fiberglass product spend by region and determining action plans to reduce risk while considering total cost of ownership.  In addition, this role will provide leadership to the Hubbell Utility Solutions and organization and coordinate with Hubbell Corporate Sourcing to develop best cost options for supply. Workload and strategy creation will be balanced across multiple Hubbell Utility Systems Business Units to create optimum risk reduction.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • BS in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance or Engineering
  • 5-10 years validated experience or training/equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working with manufacturing engineering and program management teams.
  • Experience in negotiation internal and external to a matrixed corporate environment.
  • Materials management, JIT, TCO, and Working Capital.
  • CPSM or APICS certification a plus.
