Division Overview

Hubbell Utility Solutions (HUS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HUS is also deeply engaged in product solutions for the Utility Communications and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) space and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HUS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HUS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas, and water industries.

 

HUS has four business units. Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) is our electrical components and infrastructure business. Aclara is our AMI and Meters business and also includes an installation business. Hubbell Gas Connectors and Accessories (HGCA) sells connectors and accessories for the repair, replacement and refurbishment of natural gas systems. Our fourth business is our Protection and Controls business which is our newest business initiative to drive substation communications, control and protection solutions. HUS provides these solutions in the Electric Utility, Water, Gas and Communications Market.

Staff Accountant

The staff accountant is responsible for warranty and returned goods accounting, inventory valuation and product costing, capital expenditure management, and supporting the business to analyze its actual costs against plan to identify root causes for variances.   This role is a hybrid role in St. Louis, MO. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring customer warranty claims and returned goods to ensure their accuracy in accounting for these costs in a timely manner.  Activities include monitoring the status of claims with the Operations team, verifying accuracy of the RMA data, and ensuring a proper reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Responsible to work with Product Management and Operations to regularly monitor the sufficiency of warranty reserves and perform the detailed annual refresh of these reserves.
  • Prepare analysis of warranty and RMA claims.
  • Responsible for maintaining and preparing standard cost estimates.
  • Prepare analysis of product costs, purchase price variances, freight charges.
  • Manage capital expense programs, working with project managers to understand actual costs versus budget and anticipate potential cost overruns.
  • Perform month-end close routines, including preparing journal entries, reconciling inventory perpetual records, and preparing account reconciliations.
  • Assist with monthly margin and expense variance analysis; support the controllers to prepare financial cost analysis.
  • Analyze financial transactions for errors or deficiencies, takes action to resolve / correct disconnects, and implements improvements to prevent recurrences.
  • Support project accounting reporting and analysis by ensuring proper set-up in the ERP system and monitoring transactions to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Special projects as assigned.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • A self-starter who can work independently and execute projects effectively
  • An individual able to work hands on within the various departments of the organization and communicate effectively across the organization. 

Education

Bachelors Degree in Accounting
