Position Overview

Lead the development efforts of standard new products in conjunction with members of the Product Development Team and external vendors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead development and/or investigative projects from initialization through commercial release including: contributing to scope definition, identifying and exploring specific project challenges/objectives, estimating project timelines, coordinate team project work, and coordinating with all Hubbell Lighting functional groups through product release.
  • Manage external design/development vendors to ensure delivery of new products to product scope & specification.
  • Conceptualize concepts, create computer models and build/manage creation of physical prototypes of products so as to meet the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Utilize expertise in manufacturing (sheet metal punching/forming, attachment, assembly, etc.) and prototyping to ensure manufacturability of new products.
  • Develop multiple viable solutions to challenges that meet the objectives; investigate and quantify all tradeoffs; and lead the process into determining the best course of action.
  • Complete documentation and coordination (drawings, specifications, memos, etc.) required for prototyping and transition to Manufacturing Engineering and Supply Chain.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical/Mechanical/Product Engineering/Industrial Design, or equivalent degree
  • A minimum of five years practical experience AND a minimum of three years of project management, preferably within the Lighting Industry.
  • The position also requires a strong technical background with a working knowledge of sheet metal product design, solid modeling, and manufacturing processes/documentation, and electrical/electronic systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills are also needed.


Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Design
