Job Overview

The Quality Technician is responsible for supporting the Quality and Manufacturing Operations on a plant wide basis across all steel material, process and product lines as assigned.  This includes:  ensuring compliance to in-house specifications, standards and good manufacturing practices; rejection of nonconforming lots; defect and underlying root cause analysis; first article inspections; maintain the Calibration System in SAP; interacting with suppliers to reduce variability of incoming materials; communicate and contain product quality major issues in a timely manner to production support teams, production lines on both shifts, and track in SAP Quality Notification system.

A Day In The Life

  • Perform fit, functional and dimensional inspections of product assemblies in accordance with inspection instructions and RACO drawing specifications.  
  • Verify that product quality standards and UL requirements are met.  
  • Document findings and alert  non-conformances to production  Operator, Supervisor, and Quality Engineer.
  • Help implement and streamline quality system practices in o comply with ISO 9001 standard. 
  • Control QMS documents (including procedures, work instructions, and process parameters).
  • Investigate quality issues relating to production non-conformances.  
  • Disposition and contain non-conforming product in a timely manner.  
  • Utilize underlying root cause analysis tools.
  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions. 
  •  Communicate with suppliers to improve consistent incoming quality.
  • Train Production Operators in the techniques to use inspection gages, destructive test procedures, and standard work requirements.
  • Make recommendations on inspection, productivity, tracking, reporting and/or scrap improvements, to improve current quality standards.
  • Oversee the Calibration System and maintain the calibration database in SAP.  
  • Coordinate site visits with outside calibration vendors.  
  • Implement corrective actions for gages that do not meet requirements.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to provide a safe working environment at all times.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • High school graduate plus two years advanced technical degree is required.
  • Prior experience in a dynamic, high volume production environment is required.
  • Prior experience implementing QMS compliant framework to ISO9001 is required.
  • Calibration experience with measurement equipment and gages conforming to ISO/IEC 17025 is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret work instructions, drawings, specifications, visual standards.
  • Proficient in computer operation (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and SAP).
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.  
  • Ability to organize and interpret data.
  • Good communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal team-building skills.
  • Accurately report relevant facts & evidence.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing daily priorities.
