Division Overview

Hubbell Utility Solutions(HUS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HUS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HUS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HUS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.


Position Overview

The Meters Sr. Technical Application Engineer (TAE) is a key role on the meters team as the front-line technical support for customers. This includes both pre and post order support. The role is supported by Meters engineering and quality teams who act as 2nd/3rd line support for the triage and investigation of issues. The TAE must be able to identify and communicate reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales and deployment process. The Technical Applications Engineer must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the product lifecycle. The Meters TAE will be accountable for functional, business, and broad company objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Proposal / Commercial Managers across geographic regions to respond to customer requests for information/proposals, including review of customer specifications and provided technical compliance review against defined requirements.
  • Support order growth within assigned territory. Work with sales team to influence customer’s specification.
  • Assist customers with meter configuration process for approval including all aspects of product approval, including nameplates, programs, hardware and firmware.
  • Collaborate with customers on test strategies and plans to support customers in product acceptance and E2E test phases.
  • Support customers in commissioning and troubleshooting early deployment (pilots) and during large scale deployment activities.
  • Provide technical training and support to Customers, Meter schools, Region Managers, Sales Managers and Channel team.
  • Ability to present technical papers at industry conferences and foster relationships with consulting engineering community.
  • Liaise with product line teams to understand product roadmaps in relation to customers, businesses and technical requirements.
  • Manage complex technical issues internally and in support of our customers within functional area of expertise.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical industry to include Automatic Meter Reader (AMR), AMI, smart metering, meter data management applications, neighborhood area networks.
  • Ability to travel up to 70% via air or land.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs. of test equipment
