Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

The role of the RF Network Engineer designs private area networks for Utility customers deploying Aclara solutions.  Works alongside the Network Design Team to analyze and review propagation models to ensure proper RF coverage prior to being released for RFP/RFQ.  Partner with Engineering on link budgets development for product updates and future products.  Conducting field investigations related to RF coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and review propagation studies to support Sales and Project Management.
  • Work with Engineering to understand link budgets to ensure proper RF coverage for our clients.
  • Tune model parameters to match real world situations and performance.
  • Conduct field coverage studies to account for local environment which may impact RF performance.  
  • Prepare reports and presentations that document client specific studies.
  • Effectively communicate with clients and management on technical issues that impact the design of Aclara’s private networks.

Skills and Experience


  • At least 10 years of experience in the RF network design field.
  • Advanced analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven self-starter capable of working independently, as well as under supervision, in a team environment to accomplish departmental objectives.
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Ability to effectively interface and communicate with clients.
  • Must hold a valid license to operate a motor vehicle.


  • Experience with propagation studies in the 450-470 MHz band.
  • Experience with propagation studies in the 900 MHz band.
  • Proficient with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Suite.
  • Experience in designing with EDX Signal Pro and tuning model parameters.
  • Programming skills (Visual Basic, Python)

Physical Demand:

  • Frequent walking/sitting.
  • Ability to travel via air or land 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 70lbs. (Example would be lifting Pelican case loaded with test equipment.)


  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Electrical Engineering or related field.
