Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. Position Overview

Purpose: This position encompasses several important business drivers for Utility Automation (UA) and Hubbell Utility Solutions (HUS). Utilities implement various applications across their distribution networks to accomplish grid modernization. Modernization efforts generally fall into grid visibility and control improvements and grid optimization efforts. In most of these applications a level of communication is required via a SCADA network. This position is specifically designed to support utilities in their grid modernization efforts by way of helping them adopt Hubbell technologies, implement and integrate the solutions and help utilities understand the data received and plan for the next stages of their program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
Working under the direction of Aclara’s Grid Automation (GA) teams, engage with Utilities to drive understanding of their grid modernization needs and determine the HUS/UA solutions or products that will satisfy both short and long term goals.  
Assist Grid Automation Solution Architect in determining the Distribution Automation (DA) programs that a Utility may introduce toward enabling grid modernization.
Participate in the development of a solution architecture as well as roadmap in terms of overall design and the sequence of actions the utility would need to take toward implementation of the grid modernization programs.
Lead in the technical implementation of the agreed upon design by coordinating with utilities on the timing and installation and configuration of specific components or technologies laid out in the proposed architecture
Coordinate, lead and participate in product training for the utility by as needed to support the solutions. 
Regularly analyze program and component performance and data with utilities to tune and optimize their solution implementation
Provide feedback to internal stakeholders regarding solution performance, maintaining strong records of key data elements and system metrics

Additional Responsibilities:
Through the development of the above solutions, role is responsible for assisting Utilities in maintaining their overall grid modernization deployment pace.
Work with Professional Service Project Managers to oversee internal deployment resources or third party vendors required to meet needs of projects.
Contribute to sales cycle activities, including RFP contribution, authoring of SOWs, pricing exhibits or any other pre-Sale contract or bid artifacts to support inside sales group as needed.
Ensure that HUS understands and performs all role and program duties and functions within compliance of all safety rules and regulations required by individual State, Federal Local and Utility Provisions. 

Skills and Experience

  • 5–10 years related experience at a Utility, DA solution provider or equivalent
  • While this role allows for remote work, position must be located in the continental US
  • Knowledge and experience with electric utility distribution system operations and planning:
  •  Experience with implementation of grid modernization applications
    • VVO – Volt VAR Optimization
    • CVR – Conservation by Voltage Reduction
    • DVR – Demand reduction by Voltage Reduction
    • FLISR – Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration (aka self-healing network)
    • Basic Grid Visibility – experience connecting devices to SCADA – reclosers, voltage regulators, capacitor banks, load tap changers, etc.
  • Experience with distribution planning strategies used by Utilities
  • Experience with electrical distribution system troubleshooting – outage restoration, phase balancing, power factor correction, etc.
  • Able to establish a natural rapport with Utility personnel at various levels within the Utility’s organization.

•    Previous role as a Sales Engineer

•    Professional Engineer Certification.

•    Prior experience related to AMI/metering systems.




Bachelors Degree
Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics
