Job Overview

The Trademark Paralegal position, based in Shelton, CT, will report to the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and will support the intellectual property function with a primary focus on the trademark portfolio. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with initiative and strong attention to detail who is highly organized and can multi-task competing priorities. This individual must be an ethical and compliance-oriented team player who can work with legal and business partners at all levels across the Hubbell enterprise.

A Day In The Life

  • Assist Hubbell’s intellectual property attorneys with all aspects of trademark clearance, registration, portfolio lifecycle maintenance, collateral review and policing 
  • Assist with preparing US and foreign preliminary trademark screening searches and with coordinating and summarizing outside counsel search reports
  • Assist in coordinating U.S. and foreign outside counsel activities including preparation of (and/or draft) trademark applications, responses, affidavits, renewals, and assignments
  • Communicate with corporate team members to obtain documents, use specimens and information required to facilitate responses to trademark office actions
  • Maintain an internal docket and assist with coordinating Ebilling activity
  • Obtain legalization of documents as needed
  • Prepare and electronically file related documents with the USPTO as needed
  • Conduct initial marketing collateral review
  • Assist in performing portfolio review projects
  • Assist with and coordinate investigations and remediation regarding potentially infringing activities; Assist with anti-counterfeiting projects
  • Support copyright, intellectual property litigation and portfolio diligence paralegal activities as necessary
  • Perform other related duties and ad hoc projects as necessary
     

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Paralegal certificate preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in handling trademark paralegal matters
  • Prior experience working in a corporate legal team preferred 
  • Prior experience with copyright and patent paralegal tasks preferred
  • Prior experience assisting with copyrights, patents, intellectual property litigation and diligence activities preferred  
  • High degree of proficiency with docketing, Ebilling, Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Knowledge of PATTSY docketing software, Corsearch and Legal Tracker Ebilling software preferred 
  • Proficiency with SharePoint and DocuSign preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and a sense of professionalism, demonstrating accountability and integrity
  • Displays commitment to excellence and attention to detail
  • Exceptional judgment and the ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently, applying initiative and judgment, and as part of a team
  • Prioritizes competing demands appropriately to meet deadlines
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to changing priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Willingness and ability to learn new software tools and processes and implement change
  • Connecticut Notary Public or willing to obtain certification
