Position Overview

The Tax Manager - Planning will report to the Sr. Director, Global Tax Planning & Policy and will be primarily responsible for state planning initiatives but will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of tax matters, including US and Global tax planning, transfer pricing, support for tax policies and US Federal and State compliance matters. The Tax Planning - Manager will also supervise the current and impending changes to state tax regulations and make the appropriate updates to policies and company strategies in real time. The ideal candidate will be a key collaborator working with operational colleagues to achieve tax efficient results while facilitating Hubbell’s Electrical and Utility Solutions business segments short term and long-term business strategies. You are an entrepreneurial problem solver that can turn thoughts into executable actions. The role will be responsible for implementing strategies that mitigate cash taxes and access potential tax risk and exposures. Prior exposure to federal / international tax matters as well as merger and acquisition transactions is a plus. Should be able to optimally communicate complex tax issues to internal and external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and build strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all state taxes both internally and with third party service providers
  • Coordinate analysis of state tax impacts due to M&A, business footprint transformation and legal entity rationalizations
  • Lead the state tax credit and incentive program for the organization
  • Support the calculation of the state effective tax rate
  • Lead ongoing nexus studies and state risk analysis
  • Coordinate all aspects of state tax audits and coordinating with taxing authorities
  • Provide tax compliance and reporting support with respect to state income and franchise tax returns as well as other tax filings as needed
  • Provide in-depth analysis to support tax impacts of acquisitions and divestitures to the businesses
  • Work with external advisors to implement tax planning strategies around but not limited to GILTI, FDII, FTC and Accounting Methods Changes
  • Provide effective feedback and assess staff performance
  • Improve existing processes by developing and implementing standard methodologies

Skills and Experience

  • MS in Taxation, CPA, or LLM/JD is strongly preferred
  • 7-10+ years of relevant public and or private firm experience
  • Proven understanding of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations
  • Sound problem solving skills
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills
  • Robust experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
  • Highly collaborative relationship with the broader Finance and Business Teams
  • Technology savvy with proficiency in Excel, tax research and fixed asset software products a plus (e.g., OneStream, HFM, OneSource, SAP, Checkpoint, SAGE, Vertex)
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work with colleagues across numerous functions and geographic regions
  • Creative, proactive problem solver with a can-do demeanor and the able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Should be comfortable working with various outside consultants
  • Ability to work well independently as well as with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives
