Position Overview

The Tax Compliance & Controversy Manager will report directly to the Director of Tax Operations and is responsible for managing two tax seniors and a staff associate in the completion of all aspects of the Company’s US federal and state income tax filing group. The successful candidate will possess tax expertise in the following areas but not limited to; US federal, state income and international tax compliance, tax controversy, research & development tax credit, stock base compensation, UNICAP/LIFO, tax depreciation methods and staff management/mentoring. Familiarity with global tax accounting and reporting of income taxes in accordance with ASC 740.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage third party service providers in the timely and accurate completion of all aspects of the Federal, State & Foreign country income tax compliance. First level detailed reviewer of the calculations and methods that gets included in the tax return filings
  • Manage third party service providers with the completion of the Company’s Research & Development tax credit
  • Lead day to day communications with tax authorities
  • Assist with the US tax controversy including Federal, State, Sales & Use and Property taxes
  • Assist with the accrual to tax return process
  • Knowledge of ASC 740
  • Responsible for maintaining the relationships with outside service providers and work with them to assure the accuracy and timely completion of the various Sales & Use and Property tax filings
  • Adhere to and assist in the maintenance of the Company’s SOX404 Internal Control documentation process
  • Manage and preparation of the Foreign Bank Accounts Report
  • Stay current and provide advice on tax laws, rules and regulations and accounting pronouncements impacting the businesses
  • Be able to lead and develop tax professionals within the Tax Compliance function
  • Collaborate closely and build strong relationships with different team members within the organization
  • Help with special projects as needed

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA/MST a plus
  • 6 – 10+ years combined experience in Big 4 public accounting and/or large, publicly traded company tax department
  • Possess significant in-depth knowledge of Federal & State income tax laws and principles with a strong curiosity for issue spotting and problem solving
  • Proficient with tax research using BNA or RIA Checkpoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Possess the ability to interact with cross functional teams and develop meaningful relationships that ensure tax functions are timely met
  • Solid analytical, organizational, problem solving, and excellent oral and written communication skills is a requirement
  • Able to effectively handle competing priorities while being diligent to the staff
  • Prior experience with OneSource, OneStream, SAP, HFM, RIA Checkpoint and BNA a plus
