Job Overview
Applies principles of cost accounting in the development and maintenance of product cost, inventory valuation and inventory control. Directly supervises employees in the Cost Accounting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
A Day In The Life
- Plans study and collects data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor.
- Oversees perpetual to book inventory reconciliation and resolves any errors in the recording or reporting of data.
- Implement and manage an inventory cycle counting program.
- Analyzes changes in product bills of material and routers to determine effects on costs.
- Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and identifying causes of all manufacturing variances.
- Assist Hubbell Electrical Products Management in ongoing cost saving effort.
- Analyzes audits of costs and prepares reports on a periodic and timely basis.
- Compiles cost and manufacturing expense information to be used in operating budget preparation.
- Assist in evaluating new and proposed product or service costs.
- Provides management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services, other margin analysis and factory productivity/cost.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a Hubbell Electrical Products cost accounting procedure manual.
What will help you thrive in this role?
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) Accounting from four-year college or university and 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; one plus year of experience in supervisory capacity.
- Person should be striving for certificates/licensing in cost management area. CPA/CMA preferred.
- Strong PC – Excel, Word, or equivalent
- Ability to effectively communicate and work across different functional areas within the business.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
