Position Overview

The Senior Tax Specialist – HES will be responsible for assisting the Manager, Tax Compliance & Controversy with the completion of the US federal and state income tax returns for the US filing group. The Senior Tax Specialist will also assist the Senior Tax Manager with the completion of the quarterly and annual tax provision calculations in accordance with ASC 740. In addition, the role will assist with tax controversy including audits and responding to tax notices as well as partnering with the Senior Tax Director in developing and executing tax planning initiatives. This role will handle the relationship with our third-party provider and will work with them on an ongoing basis to ensure the income and property tax process is running efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a general background in US federal and state income tax with an ability to learn other areas of tax as well as strong grasp of ASC 740. This position will allow the ideal candidate an opportunity to acquire an understanding of the Hubbell Electrical Solutions business segments and be one of the main point person that collaborate closely with our business partners.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the federal and state income tax compliance process including data gathering, review and completion of book/tax differences for the Hubbell Utility solutions group
  • Provide support for U.S. international tax returns (e.g. 5471,5472, 8865, 8890, 8891, 8892)
  • Coordinate with third party service provider and foreign controllers in acquiring and reviewing foreign tax compliance and provisions.
  • Preparation of the quarterly and annual income tax provisions and related support, including analysis of permanent and temporary book/tax differences, deferred tax balances, uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, US Tax Reform adjustments, tax account reconciliations and forecasted tax expense for FP&A
  • Assist in following and maintaining quarterly and annual Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) processes in connection with tax accounts, producing documentation, and conducting annual walkthroughs and support for testing as the need arises
  • Aid with the calculation and processing of Federal and State quarterly estimated and extension income tax payments
  • Support and maintain the upkeep of technology used in the tax reporting and compliance process
  • Complete fixed asset and intangible rollforwards for book and tax on an annual basis via SAP. Usage of SAGE system to complete tax depreciation calculations for newly acquired entities not yet on SAP
  • Opportunity to assist with various federal and state tax credit calculations
  • Assist with the administration of the US property tax compliance process which is completed by a third-party service provider and implement process improvements
  • Address and resolve in a timely manner various income, sales and use, property, and other tax notices
  • Assist the Legal Department with Annual Report filings by supplying relevant key data as needed
  • Assist with ongoing nexus studies and state risk analysis
  • Research various state matters related to income and property tax brought forward by the business units
  • Supervise and keep update with Federal and State law changes impacting the Company
  • Participate in special projects including M&A analysis and tax planning strategies

Skills and Experience

  • CPA or in pursuit of CPA a plus
  • 4-6+ years of proven experience with an emphasis on US income tax compliance and financial reporting in accordance with ASC 740
  • Mix of Public accounting and private firm experiences a plus
  • Technology savvy with proficiency in Excel, tax research and fixed asset software products a plus (e.g., OneStream, HFM, OneSource, SAP, Checkpoint, SAGE, Vertex)
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with colleagues across numerous functions and geographic regions.
  • Ability to perform optimally in an environment of constant change and growth; and be flexible and adaptable
  • Creative, proactive problem solver with a can-do demeanor and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Should be comfortable collaborating with various outside consultants
  • Work effectively in a team environment
