Job Overview
Based in Shelton, CT and reporting directly to the Hubbell Electrical Solutions (HES) segment Vice President of Finance, the HES Segment Controller will serve as a key member of the Hubbell Incorporated Finance leadership team and have responsibility for accurate, timely, transparent financial accounting, reporting and internal controls over financial reporting. This position will oversee the monthly closing cycle across the Segment and will be responsible to interface regularly with both the Strategic Business Units (SBU’s) and the Corporate finance leaders to articulate results with clarity and transparency and maintain a strong controllership environment. The HES Segment Controller is also responsible for the internal control environment across the Segment and must collaborate with the SBU’s and Corporate Controller’s team to ensure SOX 404 compliance and continuous improvement.
This high-profile role will also serve as a key interface between the SBU Controllership team, the Corporate Controllership team, the Corporate Tax team, and the One Hubbell Finance (OHF) team to ensure operating performance and objectives are clearly aligned and executed. The HES Segment Controller will be responsible to partner with the HES Segment FP&A team and other functional areas of the business to ensure the delivery of value- added business support and meaningful financial and operational metrics that lead to insightful, accurate, timely business decision-making. This position is also responsible for monitoring, analyzing and reporting on all restructuring initiatives, including project economics and savings validation. In addition, this role is required to support acquisition integration, particularly the financial accounting, reporting & controls side of finance integration, and for ensuring SOX 404 compliance within the required timeframe for newly acquired businesses.
A Day In The Life
• Principally responsible for accurate, timely, transparent financial accounting and reporting across the HES
segment in accordance with Hubbell standards, policies, procedures, practices and timelines.
• Key finance leader responsible for SOX 404 compliance and for the initial and ongoing design and operational effectiveness of all internal controls over financial reporting
• Provide strong leadership, oversight, supervision, guidance and coaching to the SBU Controllership teams and ensure timely accurate delivery of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial information, including balance
sheets, income statements, cash flows and other financial analysis, key metrics and operating results
• Continuous oversight and maintenance of accurate balance sheets for all HES legal entities and ensure all balance sheet accounts are fully supported each month and properly reconciled in accordance with company Policy & Procedures and in accordance with Blackline standards on a monthly basis
• Responsible to deliver robust and insightful OneStream-based balance sheet fluctuation analysis for the Segment, SBUs as well as for each legal entity each month
• Segment champion / advisor for ASC 606, including oversight of Revenue controls and involvement with the reviews of all significant revenue contracts with customers to ensure appropriate revenue recognition in
accordance with Hubbell Policy & Procedure and in accordance with ASC 606
• Segment champion / advisor for ASC 842, including oversight of Lease accounting and controls and coordination with Corporate Accounting to ensure accuracy and proper financial reporting for leases.
• Monthly oversight of all key reserves (Warranty, E&O, Contra-A/R, inventory shrink, restructuring, etc.)
• Oversight of accurate accounting and controls around software, firmware, and research and development
• Ensure the company operates to high standards of corporate governance and is in compliance with all financial and regulatory requirements of a U.S. public company
• Responsible for coordinating all internal audit activity and ensure information requests are provided on a timely basis and issue resolution is addressed in satisfactory manner
• Responsible for coordinating all PwC external audit activity and ensure information requests are provided on a timely basis and issue resolution is addressed in satisfactory manner, including SAB 99 support
• Ability to motivate, energize, manage, mentor and develop performance of staff
• Ability to lead organizational change with accounting staff
• Responsible for on-going compliance with and maintenance of the Hubbell Approval Matrix (AM), as well as training and ongoing support in this critical area
• Significant role in executing acquisitions and divestitures including modeling, purchase accounting, diligence, and integration.
What will help you thrive in this role?
• Senior finance and accounting professional with 15+ years experience in a variety of accounting finance leadership positions, including controllership responsibilities for multiple business units.
• Experience with U.S. multi-national publicly traded manufacturing company, ideally >$1+Billion annual revenue
• Accounting degree a must, CPA strongly preferred, MBA or MS in accounting a plus
• Big 4 experience strongly preferred
• Strong technical accounting skills and experience required
• Deep experience with SOX 404
• SAP and OneStream experience strongly preferred
• Proven ability to lead, manage, mentor develop all levels of accounting team
• Strong communication and influencing skills, ability to lead large scale initiatives and projects with both local and executive management; ability to communicate with others
• Demonstrated experience interfacing regularly with professionals at all levels of the organization, from manufacturing floor to senior executive office
• Experience presenting crisp | concise | clear | well-organized information to all levels of the organization
• Proactive and collaborative in management style and communication approach
• Demonstrated record of success in a variety finance | accounting roles
• Excellent interpersonal skills to partner and collaborate across the organization
