Position Overview

The Operations Finance Controller reports directly to the Segment Controller, and will serve as a key member of the finance leadership team and have responsibility for a variety of financial oversight and support activities. This position is principally responsible for the ongoing maintenance of accurate, timely, and transparent financial and management accounting, reporting and controls. In addition, the Operations Finance Controller serves as the principal financial advisor to the Hubbell Electrical Systems (HES) management team and responsible for accurate planning, forecasting and robust analysis for the manufacturing and distribution center sites in support of the business goals and objectives.

This position will lead all aspects of the monthly closing cycle for the entire operational accounting team and will be responsible to interface regularly with various members of the numerous operational sites while maintaining a strong controllership environment. Ensure reporting compliance with Company Policies & Procedures as well as U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and maintain an effective control environment ensuring compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handle the activities of general accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary controls of all plants
  • Key partner with Directors of Operations for all plants; working to develop KPI’s and consistent management reporting.
  • Key finance business partner to the VP Operations and Operations leadership team, providing financial leadership to the operations in the planning and execution of business goals and objectives; and in the effective management of plant costs and inventory control.
  • Advises management of results and recommend corrective actions to address unfavorable trends and variances
  • Assist with audits by internal audit, external audit and other audits and reviews as needed.
  • Supervise, maintain, and improve the system of internal controls that safeguards company asset and provides for integrity and propriety of financial transactions and activities, including periodic physical inventory counts and fixed asset verifications.
  • Ensure compliance with local, Segment, and Corporate internal controls and SOX policies.
  • Evaluate and approve business capital appropriation requests (AFE’s) prior to local, Group and Corporate management approval and monitors ongoing capital project spending.
  • Supervise and report purchase commitments and spending for all capital programs.
  • Conduct follow-up audits to ensure compliance for all significant capital investments and delivery of financial benefits.
  • Lead the deployment of efficiency cost saving and other programs that provide operating economies and improve profitability.
  • Provide mentorship and financial guidance to the local finance team as well as the Business and Operations team members.
  • Produce financial and operational reporting package that includes full financial statements, comprehensive Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting, operational Dashboard reporting, analysis of key business trends, actual versus budget variances and comprehensive plant and executive level explanations of differences.
  • Serve as policy and compliance champion for operational accounting matters for all sites and ensure accurate compliance, training, roll-out, maintenance.
  • Ability to empower, energize, lead, mentor and develop performance of staff.
  • Ability to lead organizational change with accounting staff.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of accounting experience with 3+ years in a manufacturing environment as a Plant Controller, Accounting Manager or Cost Accountant
  • 5+ years supervisory/managerial experience
  • SAP experience (finance, controlling, manufacturing and supply chain) is required
  • A combination of experience from Public Accounting and Corporate Accounting is preferred
  • Familiar with requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act; Section 404
  • Experienced in working in a matrix led environment a plus
  • Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, sophisticated Excel skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Proven capability to lead change in a team environment
  • Experience ensuring compliance with applicable financial accounting requirements under US GAAP
  • Up to 50% travel.
