Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

The position has responsible for Electric Utility and Industrial Customers in the West coast of the United States and well as the western half of Canada.  The position requires  detailed knowledge of voltage regulating equipment including switched capacitor banks and capacitor bank controls, regulator controls and LTC controls.  The position also requires knowledge of system protection including generator protection, transformer protection, feeder protection and recloser controls.

Markets served are Electric Utilities (IOU, Muni, Coop, Government)and Heavy Industrial Electric Power Users, plus the Consultants and OEMs that service and supply them. Sales are made through the Sales Managers and independent sales representatives. Ability to manage independent representatives active in various markets including Electric Utilities (IOU, Muni, Coop, Government) and Heavy Industrial Electric Power Users, plus the Consultants and OEMs that service and supply them.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include technical presentation of products, attending trade shows, writing and submitting technical papers, providing customer training, providing sales projections to internal management, managing the manufacture representatives in the territory and performing clerical functions such as expense statements.

  • Meet or exceed established quota for bookings and/or sales for assigned territory.
  • Assist customers with Beckwith Electric's products, specifications and applications through visits, demonstrations, training courses and telephone contact.
  • Understands and utilizes appropriate electrical standards, such as UL, CSA, IEC, ANSI, IEEE and CE and California Rule 21 where applicable.

Understands

  • applications of Volt/Var control of distribution systems and the functions of capacitor controls and single phase regulator controls
  • application of paralleling of transformers as well as Load Tap Changers on transformers and the features and functions of LTC controls.
  • generator and transformer protection and can test protective relays using and relay test set.
  • communications, serial and Ethernet, and protocols such as DNP 3.0 and IEC 61850.
  • LAN and WAN technologies including switches, routers, terminal servers and cellular and licensed radio communications.
  • feeder protection and coordination including reclosers and recloser controls as well as feeder overcurrent relays.
  • motor bus transfer applications in the areas of power plants and industrial facilities with large motor loads.


 

Skills and Experience

Must have a minimum of 5 years experience working with the electrical utility industry as well as a BSEE or equivalent degree. 

Must have good presentation skills.

Position requires 60 - 70% travel.

Must be able to lift equipment up to 50 pounds

Ability to  work safely in electric substations is a requirement
