Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

Oversee daily production processes as well as supervise hourly employees. Plans, directs and manages all production activities related to the manufacturing process to improve effectivity while minimizing cost.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide employee coaching and development. 
  • Take active role in the interviewing process for perspective applicants.
  • Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Plans, directs and manages all production activities related to their area’s manufacturing processes.
  • Achieve manufacturing results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaches, counseling and disciplining employees.
  • Ensures production is accurately reported after each shift.
  • Complete 1st article inspections at the beginning of each shift and after changeovers.
  • Ensures the quality systems are adhered to.
  • Works closely with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure equipment uptime.
  • Assures accurate reporting the end of the shift (labor, production and quality records).
  • Assist in the development of cost saving measures through lean initiatives.
  • Completes Hourly employee annual evaluations timely and equitably.
  • Assist in implementing LEAN concepts and continuous improvement activities.
  • Supervise departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to operations manager.
  • Perform accident investigations; recommend actions to prevent reoccurrences of problems.
  • Facilitate cross training.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources any disciplinary actions, which might be required.
  • Spend 80% of shift on the production floor, in assigned department.
Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Must demonstrate MS Office Proficiency, Computer literate
  • 3 – 5 years supervisory experience
  • Lean / Kaizen training
  • Must be willing to work in a 12 hour on / 12 hour off shift configuration.  Shift rotation is 4 days on 4 days off.

 

PHYSICALS DEMANDS & WORK ENVIROMENT:

  • Standing/walk for up to two hours at a time
  • Lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
  • Lift, pull, push and reach using a full range of motion.
