Job Overview

The Metal Assembly Team Lead is responsible for supporting daily production activities within the Metal Assembly department while leading and assisting team members to meet safety, quality, productivity, and delivery objectives. This position serves as a working lead, performing assembly functions while providing guidance, training, and direction to production associates.
 
Schedule Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 5:30pm with overtime as needed on Fridays. 

A Day In The Life

  • Perform metal assembly duties and demonstrate proficiency in all assembly processes within the department.
  • Lead daily production activities by assigning work, prioritizing tasks, monitoring workflow, managing break schedules, and ensuring production goals, quality standards, and customer requirements are achieved.
  • Train, mentor, and support associates on assembly processes, quality expectations, safety procedures, and departmental standards.
  • Review production schedules, communicate priorities, and distribute work orders and production documentation as needed.
  • Ensure production paperwork, quality records, SAP transactions, and departmental reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor product quality, perform inspections, assist with troubleshooting assembly and quality concerns, and coordinate rework or repairs in accordance with engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Identify and communicate product defects, process issues, equipment concerns, safety hazards, accidents, incidents, and near misses to the Supervisor.
  • Maintain housekeeping, workstation organization, inventory levels, and material availability to support safe and uninterrupted production.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback regarding employee performance, development opportunities, and policy compliance.
  • Serve as acting supervisor during periods of absence and support continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, including proper use of tools, equipment, PPE, and hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Operate powered industrial tools and equipment safely and efficiently, and assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

What will help you thrive in this role?

 

 

    • Thorough understanding of metal assembly processes and procedures, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and work instructions.

    • Ability to lead pre-shift/Tier 1 meetings and effectively communicate production priorities and expectations.

    • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve basic assembly and quality issues.

    • Knowledge of quality standards, inspection processes, and safe handling of hazardous materials.

    • Previous SAP and Microsoft Office 365 experience preferred, or the ability to learn required systems and applications.

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, lead a team environment, and maintain effective working relationships across departments.

    • Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and high ethical and professional standards.

    • Regular and predictable attendance required; must be in good standing with no more than one active disciplinary action and no more than one attendance point.

    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required; previous manufacturing or metal assembly experience required; previous leadership, trainer, or lead experience preferred.

    • Forklift experience preferred and ability to obtain company certification.

    Physical Requirements

    • Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and perform prolonged standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive motions.

    • Ability to perform visual inspections, identify small defects, and safely use hand tools, power tools, measurement devices, and powered industrial equipment.

    Work Environment

    • Manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, and moving equipment, requiring the use of appropriate PPE and adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
