Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

Experienced Product Engineer with focus on firmware based switchgear product development, debugging and testing (at board and system level). The engineer will focus on developing, testing, validating, troubleshooting intelligent utility automation products involving microcontrollers, RF/wireless communications, SCADA. The Engineer may also lead the commercialization process of new products from idea generation through product launch.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Debug and edit embedded firmware and windows applications for mission critical products used in power industry
  • Construct comprehensive test plans to validate product compliance to industry standards, and customer specifications.
  • Interact with customers, sales, and marketing to solve problems and develop product scopes.
  • Manage multiple projects and design resources.
  • Participate in Kaizen improvement events, Perform DFMEA, PFMEA on new products
  • Sustain and incrementally improve existing products lines.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis.
  • Utilize CAD to modify, and maintain product 2D/3D drawings.
  • Support marketing, and operations to solve design and manufacturing problems on existing parts.
  • Review /approve ECRs, EOs, product drawings and other applicable documentation.

Skills and Experience

  • BS Computer/Electrical/Computer Science Engineering
  • Experience with test lab equipment and simulation tools
  • Must demonstrate consistent (and sustainable) application of problem solving and analytical skills in a team environment.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • 5 years of industry (utility or C&I) experience on mission critical firmware/electronics based product development, testing and validation.
  • Familiarity with switchgear protection schemes and controls
  • Familiarity with communication protocols at firmware level- IEEE 802.11, DNP 3.0, IEC61850 etc


Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
