The Hubbell Internship Program is a 10 to 12-week program providing students the opportunity to gain corporate experience, learn about all aspects of our business, and prepare students with the kind of experience needed to have a rewarding career at Hubbell. The Engineering Intern position offers a variety of opportunities including basic engineering tasks related to design, analysis, test, integration, and systems engineering. Opportunities can vary from working in Application Tooling, Utility, Lean Manufacturing, Research & Development lab, New Product Development, continuous improvement or more.  
 

A Day In The Life

Engineering Interns will typically support one or more experienced engineers in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as the day-to-day operations of the engineering department. Interns may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which will help them build a strong network within the Hubbell community.  

Roles and Responsibilities will vary by Hubbell business location, but may include the following: 

 

  • Research and provide technical assistance to engineers 
  • Review current engineering program activities to make recommendations for changes/improvement opportunities 
  • Perform tests to assure quality control 
  • Develop hardware from concept to production launch including design documentation, participating in design reviews, coding, code reviews, unit testing and unit test reviews
  • Develop and implement strategy to validate resulting systems against requirements. Thus, the hardware design and development responsibilities include the development and implementation of design verification test procedures
  • Document and resolve defects
  • Develop hardware and software test tools as needed
  • Ensure the overall quality of the hardware incorporated in the system, its performance against requirements, and it’s on schedule delivery
  • Ensure designs are to exceed requirements of governing agencies (i.e., FCC and UL) and must be capable of listing with these agencies where applicable
  • Capture and direct corrective actions in response to field complaints and supply issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Student must be enrolled (as a junior or senior) in an accredited university working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale 
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency, with preferred experience using CAD/related drawing software 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment 
  • Beginners background in analog and digital design and development
  • Beginners understanding of hardware interfaces, E-field sensors, current sensors and low power battery design
  • Experience with schematic capture like OrCad, Altium, Ealge and simulation tools such as LTspice and Electronic Workbench
  • Working understanding of Design Verification Testing at the circuit level
  • Experience with circuit bring-up and solid trouble shooting methodologies
  • Basic understanding of firmware interfaces
