CAD Designer- Portsmouth, NH

The CAD Designer is responsible for developing product designs, engineering documentation, and manufacturing support solutions utilizing CAD and PLM tools. This role works closely with Design Engineers to develop product concepts, create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings, and support products throughout the development lifecycle. The CAD Designer leads engineering change implementation activities, performs tolerance analyses, applies Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and designs fixtures and tooling to support manufacturing, testing, and product validation. The position requires strong technical knowledge, collaboration across functions, and ownership of engineering documentation to ensure products meet performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements.

• Develop product concepts and design solutions in collaboration with Design Engineers.
• Create and maintain 3D parametric models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using CAD software such as Soliworks or Inventor.
• Create detailed part, fabrication, tooling, and assembly drawings that accurately communicate design intent and manufacturing requirements.
• Determine appropriate drawing views, sections, details, dimensions, and tolerances needed to fully define components and assemblies.
• Apply and maintain GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards and ensure drawing compliance with company drafting standards.
• Perform tolerance stack-up and tolerance analysis to verify fit, form, and function of product assemblies.
• Design and document manufacturing fixtures, assembly tooling, test fixtures, and other production support equipment.
• Lead Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) by coordinating design updates, implementing revisions, documenting changes, and ensuring accurate release of engineering documentation.
• Execute revisions to detail, assembly, customer, and specification drawings following approved engineering change processes.
• Generate and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and verify consistency between CAD models, drawings, and released product structures.Review completed drawings, models, and BOMs to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to release.
• Support Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Management teams during product development and sustaining engineering activities.
• Recommend design improvements to enhance manufacturability, quality, reliability, serviceability, and cost competitiveness.
• Maintain engineering documentation, revisions, and lifecycle states within Windchill or other PLM systems.Support prototype builds, product validation activities, and root-cause investigations as required.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in CAD Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• 3-7 years of experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, and engineering documentation within a manufacturing or product development environment.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Creo, Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
• Experience creating manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials.
• Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience performing tolerance stack-up and tolerance analysis for mechanical assemblies.
• Experience supporting engineering change processes and engineering documentation release.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or related technical discipline.
• Experience designing manufacturing fixtures, assembly tooling, test fixtures, or production support equipment.
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as Windchill.
• Experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
• Knowledge of injection molded plastics, sheet metal, die cast, machined, and electromechanical components.
• Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
• Experience supporting product development from concept through production release.
