Position Overview

Conceptualize, design and commercialize lighting products within defined parameters. Responsibilities include identifying and exploring solutions for specific project objectives, estimating project timelines and coordinating with other functional teams through commercialization. This position collaborates with Engineers, Engineering Services, Product Management, Manufacturing, Technical Support and Warranty Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design new products within established parameters including performance, budget and schedule to meet the needs of internal and external customers
  • Develop multiple viable solutions that meet defined objectives. Investigate and quantify tradeoffs to determine the best course of action. Solicit feedback throughout process
  • Build physical prototypes as needed to demonstrate concepts
  • Complete documentation (drawings, specifications, memos, etc) required for transition to manufacturing and supply chain
  • Work with marketing, sourcing, and the production staff at various facilities
  • Utilize Hubbell NPD Tollgate processes and tools
  • Request and evaluate testing (thermal, photometric etc.) as needed for third party certification (UL, CSA, DLC, etc.).
  • Assume additional responsibilities as requested

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree
  • Minimum of 2 years practical design engineering experience
  • Proficiency in CAD packages including Solidworks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD or other solid modeling software
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong oral/written communication skills

 

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in lighting industry
  • Thermal experience
  • Knowledge of sheet metal/die casting/extrusion design
  • Knowledge of technical and electrical codes and standards (UL/CSA/DLC)
  • Low volume, high mix manufacturing experience
  • SAP experience
