Position Overview
Performs multiple setups and operations to produce metal parts and assemblies. Sets up and operates a variety of machines, such as lathes, mills, etc, to perform diversified machining operations. Must be able to work from complex blueprints and drawings, perform standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work tooling, speeds and feeds of machining, and use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate any and all CNC lathes and mills in a safe and efficient manner.
- Trains other workers in the machining and production operation as well as safety, quality, and related activities.
- Must be able program G and M code on Horizontal Lathe, Vertical Mill and machining Center.
- Must be able familiar with Solid Works, Cam Works or Master Cam
- Work with supervision and engineering to create/refine tooling prints and finished products for factory production.
- Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
- Trains other workers in the machining and production operation as well as safety, quality, and related activities.
- Organize, track and work with vendors for machining consumables and steel requirements order/restock
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Operate Surface Grinders
- Perform inspections of parts using precision measuring instruments.
- Perform daily upkeep and routine maintenance, keeping equipment and work area in good working order.
- Inventory and document tooling and inserts.
Skills and Experience
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills normally acquired through a high school diploma or GED.
- At least three (3) years’ experience operating and programing a CNC matching center.
- Must have knowledge of set up and operation of all CNC lathes, mills and associated equipment in area.
- Must be able to use precision measuring instruments.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Lifting up to 30 pounds
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
- Lifting and loading up to 40 pounds
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Bend over approximately 20% of the time.
- Use of hands and arms to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects.
- Work with and handle parts in cutting oil and kerosene.
- Work usually takes place in a manufacturing environment where conditions can be reflective of the outside elements
