Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

Manage and provide leadership to product engineering group consisting of engineers at multiple sites.  Conduct ongoing review of designs and processes associated with current products to ensure product integrity.  Provide timely assistance to marketing and manufacturing in support of quotation and order activities. Provide design and drafting support for medium voltage power distribution automation products for the Utility Automation business unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set departmental objectives and work with staff to set and meet individual objectives to support Company business plans
  • Assure staff has appropriate support to accomplish design work and to meet project schedules; recommend training as appropriate to enhance staff skills and to make staff members more effective contributors
  • Prepare/review major expenditure accounts to support product line business plans
  • Prepare and manage annual department operating budget
  • Ensure cost reduction projects are developed and executed
  • When necessary, perform electrical and mechanical design and drafting duties for make-to-order pad and pole-mount capacitor bank assemblies, pad and pole-mount primary metering units, multi-connection secondary enclosures, etc.
  • Ensure models and drawings are accurate and completed in a fast paced ETO environment.
  • Communicate regularly with shop floor regarding any manufacturability or quality issues

 

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, and MS Office Products
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related
  • Experience in designing enclosures for the power distribution industry
  • Experience in electrical design for the power utility industry
  • Experience in pad and pole-mount capacitor bank assemblies, pad and pole-mount primary metering units, multi-connection secondary enclosures.
  • Engineering change management experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
