Position Overview
Responsible to conduct detailed studies and analysis to optimize manufacturing processes, estimate costs for new products, contribute to department cost reductions and CAPEX goals and disposition non-conforming materials by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support to the manufacturing floor for all existing products and processes. Floor support includes but is not limited to dispositions of rejects, preparation of method deviations, and analysis of process problems related to material, methods, or machines.
- Analyze, recommend and implement process improvements that improve quality and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Design, draft, develop, and implement tooling, fixtures, equipment, and/or accessories utilizing solid modeling packages to achieve process improvements.
- Work with outside vendors to receive quotes for specialty tooling and equipment. Specify and place orders for tooling and ancillary equipment.
- Investigate, evaluate, specify, and purchase new manufacturing equipment in order to make process improvements, reduce cost, improve safety, and improve quality.
- Work with Product Marketing, Engineering and Product Design to develop processes and launch new products or product extensions including: process steps and cycle times, equipment specifications, cost analyses, operation sheets, item openers, make vs. buy decisions, and tooling for new products. Participate in pilot runs and debugging of new processes and machines.
- Guiding, informing and counseling production supervisors, plant management, and other personnel in the solution of process problems.
- May provide manufacturing input to Safety Committee (SAC), SPC Teams, Process Improvement Teams (PIT), Focus Team, Customer Service, Marketing, QC and Purchasing.
- Additional duties include tool design, preparation of stage drawings and set-up sheets, gage specifications, capacity and utilization studies, layouts, Capital Equipment justifications, Engineering Change notice initiation and approvals, and vendor liaisons.
- Apply engineering and statistical problem-solving methods to process manufacturing problems to drive root-cause corrections and ongoing improvement.
- Developing and optimizing CNC programs using programming and solid model CAM packages.
- Developing/creating work instructions for jobs prior to actual manufacturing.
- Working with Quality, Design, and Marketing personnel to determine the disposition of non-conforming products and materials.
Required Qualifications
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Engineering; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Database software; CAD software; Solid Modeling packages; Internet software; Spreadsheet software; Word Processing software; Presentation software; CAM software; Statistical software.
- Preferred Skills: Ability to interact with a variety of people including all levels of employees, vendors, etc. CNC programming a plus.
- Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
