Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods by applying sound engineering principles in fixture design, problem solving, and material selection using lean manufacturing methods.  Evaluate and recommend practices related to metal forming, metal cutting, and heat treating.
  • Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements/workflow and design layout of equipment/workspace for maximum efficiency/product flow.  Confer with management/manufacturing/engineering to facilitate production processes.
  • Confer with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Study specifications, engineering blueprints/shop data and confer with engineering/shop personnel to resolve design problems.  Prepare tool and fixture concepts, coordinate review/approval by manufacturing staff and develop detailed CAD drawings.
  • Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.  Use MTM, MSD, Time Study, or similar formal system for factory time measurement.
  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.  Evaluate product lines and recommend changes in production methods, materials and product design to optimize throughput, quality and cost.
  • Provide input to safety committee, Lean Manufacturing Teams, Customer service, QC, Purchasing, etc.

Skills and Experience

  • Years experience - 3 to 5 years
  • Education and/or Experience - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering and/or two or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills – Ability to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, procedure manuals and effectively present information/respond to managers, clients, customers, and general public inquiries.
  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry/trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists along with the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills - Knowledge of Database/Design/Development/Internet and Manufacturing software, including ProE/AutoCad/Microsoft Office. 
  • Training:  Successfully complete Safety, Quality and ISO Training.

Associates Degree in Engineering General or Mechanical Engineering

Bachelors Degree in Engineering General or Mechanical Engineering
