Position Overview

The Group Manager, Accounting & Reporting serves as a key member of the Hubbell finance leadership team supporting 15 business units within the Construction and Energy Group. This role reports to the Group Controller in Manchester, NH, managing a minimum of one finance professional and interfaces regularly with the Group President and Group VP of Finance. The Group Manager, Accounting & Reporting supports Controllers and business units spanning multiple time zones, countries and currencies, remotely and in-person during periodic site visits. This role routinely collaborates with the Hubbell Corporate Controller’s team and partners with functional-area leaders across the organization. 


This position owns multiple short and long term projects simultaneously and ensures that internal customer requirements are satisfied on a regular basis. Partners with the Group FP&A and Operational Accounting functions to ensure the delivery of value-added technical accounting support and analysis that leads to accurate and timely financial reporting and decision-making.   

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Principally responsible for reviewing monthly BU results (trial balance, financial statements & operational metrics) and documenting a related monthly business performance review
  • Principally responsible for managing the monthly intercompany eliminations process
  • Oversees the monthly preparation of account reconciliations and journal entries using a web-based application (Blackline)
  • Maintains a robust and effective control environment, including documentation, self-testing, issue remediation and audit support. This entails periodic site visits to oversee control testing and support visits from the Hubbell Corporate internal audit team.
  • Provides oversight, supervision and technical accounting support to business unit accounting teams, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial information, including financial statements and operating results in accordance with Hubbell policy & GAAP
  • Directly Manages, reviews the work of and provides training and development to 1 Sr. Group Accountant (at a minimum)
  • Interfaces regularly with the Corporate Controller’s team and provides technical support to the HCE group and business unit finance teams
  • Supports complex accounting matters that impact the group, partnering with the Corporate Controller’s team on technical assessments as necessary, and supporting special projects
  • Assists in preparing analysis, commentary and presentation materials for monthly and quarterly financial review meetings
  • Works with the Hubbell Corporate and HCE Group finance teams to provide technical accounting support and acts as the group’s policy champion to ensure proper compliance, training, roll-out and maintenance of new accounting standards and Corporate accounting policies
  • Drafts technical accounting memos, accounting position papers and control documentation to support the company’s accounting processes and conclusions
  • Assists Group business unit finance teams in problem solving related to Hyperion Financial Management, BlackLine and other financial software packages
  • Identifies and implements best financial, accounting and internal control practices across all HCE locations
  • Owns the Group signature authority matrix, ongoing maintenance and related training
  • Demonstrated record of success in a variety finance and accounting roles
  • Support internal and external audit activity as necessary and oversees timely remediation of any findings or follow-up items
  • Assists in preparing analysis, commentary and presentation material for quarterly review meetings with the company’s external auditors
  • Reviews departmental spending at the Construction and Energy group level (group headquarters, etc.) and works with group FP&A team to develop related plan & forecast inputs
  • Supports SAP and other key financial system implementations
  • Supports M&A activity, with direct oversight of purchase accounting, policy and procedure deployment, accounting system integration and internal control assessment & integration 
  • Completes ad hoc financial information requests and various special projects as needed
Skills and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a four-year college or university required
CPA and/or MSA/MBA preferred
6+ Years experience with accounting/internal controls/consolidation accounting, preferably within a global manufacturing company


  • Ability to work across all boundaries and interface regularly and successfully with Corporate financial shared service organization
  • Proven ability to work well with others in a diverse organization
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and PowerPoint presentation skills
  • Highly organized with an ability to work well under tight time constraints
  • Deep hands-on understanding of US GAAP, transactional accounting within a manufacturing company model and with a monthly accounting close process
  • Ability to effectively identify, diagnose and communicate the impact of complex transactions to the company’s leadership team.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 (revenue recognition)
  • Recent experience with consolidations/eliminations processes and foreign currency translation accounting
  • Expert working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with U.S. multi-national public company, ideally $100 Million+ annual revenue – with a global manufacturing firm a plus
  • Experience implementing and/or maintaining SOX controls in a publicly traded company environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence change across all levels of the organization
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently and execute projects effectively
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communications skills. Must present confidently to an audience composed of Sr. Management
  • Computer Skills: Must have strong Microsoft Office, e-mail and other PC application skills.
  • Must have experience with Hyperion or similar financial reporting/consolidations software. Mid-to-large scale ERP system experience a plus (SAP)
