Job Overview
The Engineering Manager will oversee a staff of 5-7 Mechanical Engineers internationally ensuring that high quality installation tooling products & systems are designed to meet both internal and external customer specifications. Develop and execute product development and cost reduction plans to achieve goals established in the annual business plan. Support new product development efforts for the Tooling Product Line Business Team (PLBT). Conduct ongoing review of designs and processes associated with current and new products to ensure product integrity. Employ and update department processes and procedures to provide continuous improvement of department metrics. Provide timely assistance to marketing, sales, and manufacturing in support of business unit objectives.
A Day In The Life
Management of Installation Tooling Engineering department:
- Plan and coordinate department activity/workload
- Monitor employee performance, providing feedback
- Complete performance growth, development and training of staff
- Ensure that employees perform work safely
Manage all functions pertaining to the design and documentation control of installation tooling products:
- Encourage the most efficient processing methods to meet customer needs
- Periodically review engineering designs to ensure high quality, accuracy, and conformance with company standards
- Design, upgrade, and implement new processes and procedures to continually improve the efficiency of the Tooling PLBT group
- Supervise workloads to ensure all project types are addressed with accountability
- Drive the team to meet/exceed New Product Development project goals (scope, performance, cost and ECD)
Coordinate interdepartmental activities and be available for travel as needed to support large projects
What will help you thrive in this role?
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required
- Five years’ experience in applying Mechanical fundamentals and knowledge to produce a product from concept to full production
- Two years supervisory experience
- Able to work in teams
- Ability to interact and work effectively to achieve common goals with other departments including supply chain, operations, manufacturing, sales, and marketing
- Fosters an environment where motivation and attitude are positive
- Acts as a mentor for subordinates
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, managers, clients and customers
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies
- Experience in the electric utility and/or C&I markets or in the design and development of electrical connector devices is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must have strong ERP, Microsoft Office, e-mail, and other PC application skills
