Position Overview

Job Summary:
Responsible for all aspects of cost/operational accounting within the Burndy business unit covering 2 or more plants, a inventory distribution center and a pool of central indirect operating costs. The overall mission of this role is to obtain data and apply it in helping the organization to make effective operational decisions that contribute to overall profitability. At Burndy, a cost account will serve as an expert in quantitative and qualitative variance analysis while working closely with the operations and management teams. This person should excel in identifying key data, interpreting findings, and helping managers understand the numbers behind their operational actions. This role entails a high degree of participation in routine tasks (month-end closing, standard costing, variance analysis, physical inventories, variance capitalization analysis, excess & obsolete inventory analysis, cycle count process, etc.) and in large projects (post-acquisition integrations, capital investment analysis, ERP system upgrades, etc). A strong candidate for this role will demonstrate willingness and ability to visit operational sites and partner with operational leaders across the business. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Daily production order variance review.  Identify significant favorable/unfavorable variances.  Review with operations staff (warehouse, planners, etc) & champion ERP system corrections where applicable.
Compile and calculate cost information and perform cost rolls in SAP as needed.
Weekly Purchase Price Variance review identifying significant variances.  Review with purchasing staff & champion ERP system corrections where applicable.
Monthly End financial closing
Prepare cost entries for the Month End financial closing
PPV Analysis, including subcontractors by product lines and factories
WIP Aging Analysis
Production Variance Analysis (in liaise with the Operations group)
Review Perpetual Inventory Reports
Analyze Excess & Obsolete inventory and prepare quarterly reserve analysis in accordance with Hubbell policy & procedure
Monitor the factory expenses, manufacturing variances, and inventory balances.
Prepare high level monthly P&L statements by site.
Analyze the performance of various products and operational segments.
Support new product development teams in providing value-added financial analysis.
Work with operations team to identify & measure the return on productivity projects at the plant
Serve as “scorekeeper” for cost reduction program reporting and tracking.
Analyze and report the full potential program results by project
Lead role in this area
Coordinate with Operations Management to conduct a full- scale PI each year
Prepare, audit, and reconcile the annual physical inventory.
Working with operations to investigate inventory variances and to improve inventory controls
Lead role in this area
Coordinate and perform the annual standard cost roll to establish product costs in conformance with Hubbell policy & procedure.

Prepare in liaise with factories their plant overhead budgets.

Skills and Experience
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">5+ years related experience working for a manufacturing company with a fully integrated ERP system, preferably SAP.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Prior experience calculating and performing annual cost rolls<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Prior experience leading physical inventories.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Must be strong in Excel.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Highly organized with an ability to work well under tight time constraints.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Strong ability to communicate technical accounting materials to non-accountants
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Willingness and ability to travel to operational sites and partner with operations management
Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting
