Position Overview

Quality Inspector to support 2nd Shift.

This position will work a 4/10 schedule (Monday - Thursday, 1500 - 0130)

Shift Differential will be applied to the base rate.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Can read prints and understand Burndy product drawings and specifications and properly apply same.
  • Has a basic understanding of GD&T symbols.
  • Can perform detailed first-piece inspections (FAIR/PSIR/QCIP) on items that are newly produced Burndy products or parts.
  • Can make visual inspections checking material or product for surface defects such as cracks, pits, burrs, finish, color, deformities, flash, part damage, etc.
  • Can perform in-process and sampling inspections of parts and assemblies produced from all forms of processing operations (machining, assembly, plating, etc.)
  • Can use various types of inspection equipment to obtain measurements and document findings.  Inspection equipment includes calipers, micrometers, fixed gages, optical comparator, hardness tester, etc., measuring angular differences and all other dimensional callouts.
  • Can use Microsoft Word and Excel as necessary for creating/maintaining inspection documents.
  • Can test mechanisms for clearance and freedom of movement
  • Can use statistical sampling plan as directed.
  • Can maintain detailed data records as required.
  • Can pull up relevant files (drawings, specifications, ECO’s, Deviations, Work Instructions, etc) in enterprise software (i.e. Agile and SAP).
  • Can understand and follow the Burndy Quality Manual.  Able to understand how this manual relates to the requirements of various external agencies such as ISO, NUPIC and CSA.

  • Mathematical Skills:  Fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Other Skills and Abilities:  Some understanding of ISO 9001 standards.
  • A degree is preferred from a college or technical school OR at least two years of related experience.
