Position Overview

Under general supervision, plans and advises all metal finishing operations through subordinate production and technical personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises approximately 30 employees in the metal finishing department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and advising work; appraising performance; exciting and focusing employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • In conjunction with production control requirements, will plan and schedule metal finishing activities to meet short and long range production goals.
  • Reviews production plans to determine manpower requirements and equipment needs are met.
  • Consults Plating manager on capital equipment purchases and maintenance programs. Investigates new metal finishing equipment and chemistries; may recommend it to plant manager.
  • Effectively handles emergency situations and safety within the metal finishing and waste treatment areas.
  • Responsible for the metal finishing department budget.
  • Will also ensure that all hazardous material and hazardous waste operations are in compliance with all local, state and federal laws.
  • Will coordinate waste treatment activities under the direction of the corporate director of safety and environmental affairs.
  • Responsible for quality of product produced.
  • Required to be trained in accurate handling of hazardous waste in accordance with 40 CFR265.16 Due to the various waste generated within Burndy.
  • Required to be trained in 40 hour Emergency Response in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 Due to the various hazards associated with chemical handling and hazardous waste handling within the facility.
  • May be required to work weekends and alternate shift hours.
  • Perform other duties may be assigned as the need arises.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university with major course work in chemistry and/or management; eight years related plating experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Also must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Must have the ability to effectively present information to top management, and/or government officials.
  • Must have the ability to apply sophisticated mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Must have the ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and take care of several abstract and concrete variables
