Position Overview

Able to operate all equipment used in executing metal finishing and waste treatment operations by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for the startup of the shift which includes turning on heat for tanks and filling tanks to desired water levels.

Loads and unloads tote pans of parts, stacks parts in baskets, racks, and/or barrels, racks, unracks, cleans, etches, desmuts, pickles, bright-dips, dyes, degreases, heat treats, plates, coats, wet processes and dries parts.

Fills basket, rack and/or barrel with parts to be processed and lowers materials into appropriate tank. Determines time parts are to remain in tank, and follows prescribed procedures.

Removes parts when process is complete.

Maintains cleanliness of tanks and work areas.

Monitors temperatures of solutions.

Maintains daily production logs.

Physically inspects processing to ensure quality of product.

Required to perform general utility work, material handling, assist with chemical handling and solution maintenance and record keeping as needed.

May be asked to troubleshoot with programmable controls.

Works with laboratory to ensure proper chemical maintenance and solution control.

Gives assistance, provides direction and/or trains inexperienced personnel as needed. Is responsible for quality of product produced.

Is capable of operating and maintaining the waste treatment system.

Required to be trained in proper handling of hazardous waste in accordance with 40 CFR 265.16, due to the various waste generated within Burndy.

May be required to be trained in 24 hour Emergency Response in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120, due to the various hazards associated with chemical handling and hazardous waste handling within the facility.

Required to be trained in the proper handling of hazardous materials in accordance with 49 CFR 171-172.

Maintains an organized and safe work environment.

Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must also be able to write simple correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY: Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must have a basic understanding of chemistry as it applies to the job; a remedial understanding of chemical wastewater treatment, and the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.

The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Proper personal protective equipment such as eye protection, foot protection, respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment must be worn as needed.
