Job Overview

Lead the work area and be accountable for work flow, training and communication in the group and with customers and suppliers.
 

A Day In The Life

  • Coordinate the processing of all jobs in the assigned area, assign team members to work centers on all shifts.
  • Communicate with management, production control, setup people, operators, and support personnel as needed to sustain proper work flow.
  • Adjust daily work plan for expedites and priorities from other areas of the plant.
  • Use factivity and other tools to collect and record data on setups, downtime, quantities, scrap tickets and return to stock.
  • Monitor and report on performance measures such as throughput time, labor utilization, quantities and safety.  Communicate this information to the team members, other group leaders and management.
  • Provide “hands-on” assistance in any team function when needed.
  • Provide or arrange for training for team members, including but not limited to, job functions, safety, quality and factivity.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as; resolving job packet issues (errors, drawing discrepancies, etc.).  Resolving bill and routing issues.  Resolving material return-to-stock and scrap ticket problems.  Monitor team’s skill and training needs.  
  • Measure team’s performance throughput time, customer service measures such as WIP aging and idle time.  Teams utilization and efficiency.  Quality performance (yield & scrap).  Maintain skill matrix/cross training chart.
  • Recommend corrective actions to management
  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school or general education degree (GED) and six to twelve months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must have the ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, detailed short correspondence, and memos.  Must also be able to write detailed correspondence.  Must be able to clearly and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.  Must have the ability to train team members in a variety of subjects including job tasks, safety, quality, etc…

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Must have the ability to compute rate, ration and percent.

REASONING ABILITY:
Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to interpret information collected from various sources and determine the best course of action.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must display mechanical aptitude.  Must possess ability to make decisions based on changing conditions.
