Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

The Business Development Manager for Water is the representative from Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) that will partner with a defined list of key accounts specific to AMR/AMI (such as Itron, Sensus), their distribution network and other related industry channels (consultants, engineering firms and installation contractors) to understand their unique business needs, assure that we provide maximum service, and increase Hubbell sales. Using their knowledge of the account and the full Hubbell brand portfolio, this person will provide products and solutions in partnership with Hubbell’s product-focused business unit. This person will work primarily at the national level, but will also coordinate local activities with HPS territory managers to assure proper local support. The Business Development Manager’s activities include training, promotion, resolving issues, building strong business relationships, coordinating with partner distributors, identifying and executing opportunities to significantly improve sales.

This position will work with and report to the National Sales Manager, Water.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong, constructive, and professional rapport with contacts across the enterprise of certain key national customers.
  • Create annual comprehensive sales and marketing plans/objectives for each key account; detailing objectives and actions.
  • Communicate and drive the plan across the business unit.
  • Work in close partnership with internal Hubbell business unit to increase sales of their products, keeping them informed and employing their support for marketing, training, promo, and engineering.
  • Work in partnership with local territory managers to assure that local territory efforts for national accounts are aligned with national efforts.
  • Resolve any issues that arise with national accounts, using them as opportunity to service the customer and to strengthen our relationship.
  • Monitor sales levels, quotation activity, and CRM database activity to keep on top of account opportunities and threats. 
  • Provide business unit with feedback to help in the identification and development of new products to serve our AMR/AMI and related customers.
  • Aid in providing competitive marketing intelligence. Regularly benchmark performance against peer competitors and historical company results in market share, product mix, customer satisfaction, and financial performance. 
  • Drive product specifications with industry consultants and engineering firms.
  • Coordinate with partner distributors as needed to assure the best competitive and service position for Hubbell with national accounts. 
  • Coordinate and attend industry training, tradeshows other related Industry meetings. 

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of business development or sales experience with a successful selling record.
  • Water industry experience preferred.  Experience in AMR/AMI products and distribution sales channels is a plus.
  • Expertise in developing sales plans, project tracking, and market development. 
  • Demonstrated success in the development and execution of sales initiatives.
  • Strategic vision with practical approach to meet goals.
  • Highly motivated to reach financial objectives.
  • Organized and disciplined.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a wide variety of customers; relationship building.
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) experience required.
  • Salesforce (CRM) experience preferred.
  • Extended travel a necessity (moderate to heavy travel, primarily within the continental U.S.).
  • Ability to work remote if in proximity to a major airport. Company car will be provided for travel in reasonable proximity to accounts.
  • BS/BA in Marketing, Engineering or Business. 
  • 4-year College Degree preferred
