Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

The Vice President and General Manager, Utility Automation is responsible for providing strategic leadership, technology vision, and innovative process execution across Hubbell's Utility Automation BU which is responsible for approximately US$60 million in revenue. The new VPGM will oversee operations in a non-unionized and matrix environment of more than 500 employees. The executive must understand the industry (utility automation, control systems and appropriate market solutions), be commercially driven and be familiarized with service provider technology trends. The new executive will develop a mid-to-long-term growth road map for the BU and in line with the overall corporate strategy. He/she will also be responsible of driving a commercial force in order to keep the business growing and will be responsible for establishing a succession plan for the role.  

The new VPGM will be tasked with enabling internal collaboration, external partnerships and a fair amount of mergers/acquisitions. This executive will also have a business and strategic mindset to collaborate with other members of the senior management team to drive greater shareholder value.  The VPGM reports to the Division VP of AMI, Utility Automation and Services and manages 4-6 management level direct reports which include Sales, Operations and Engineering.

Skills and Experience

Hubbell is seeking a highly respected commercial leader to serve as its VPGM of its Utility Automation BU. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to drive commercial growth through organic and inorganic strategies, through the exploration and delivery of new technology solutions as well as manage and maintain existing legacy systems.  In addition, he or she must be credible and respected in the marketplace and able to effectively represent the Hubbell brand as well as to attract leading talent to the organization.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE 

10+ Years' of Commercial and/or Manufacturing Leadership Experience
A minimum of ten years of successful commercial and/or manufacturing experience in a senior-level position at a product and/or service-oriented technology company, including P&L responsibility and working in heavily matrixed environments. Power utilities experience is ideal, but not required.

Strong commercial and operational acumen
The candidate must possess good abilities to work through supply chain, distributing channels and independent salespersons, as well as excellent marketing knowledge and be able to constantly engage with operations.

Team Leadership of at least 300/400 people in a matrixed organization and a high level of collaboration
The desired executive is a strong leader of an organization who knows how to harness a team towards a common goal.  This individual will bring a strong sense of leadership and confidence, tempered with the ability to be an effective and persuasive team player. This leader will have demonstrated an ability to collaborate exceptionally well with a dispersed team as well as with other company functional teams (i.e. marketing, sales, finance, research and development).

Education
A degree in Civil, Electric or Mechanical Engineering, complemented with a Master´s degree or an MBA.
