Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

The Sr. Product Engineer will lead design and manufacturing efforts for Medium and High Voltage air disconnect and fuse switchgear manufactured by Hubbell Utility Solutions. Projects undertaken will involve new product introductions for line extensions and product enhancements, research into new switchgear technologies at an apparatus and component level and support in change management and root cause analysis for end users and internal manufacturing.  


Product Engineers are also encouraged to participate in industry technical development work with IEEE, IEC, ANSI, ASTM, ASME or other appropriate organizational bodies.  This role is electromechanical in nature and a strong candidate will demonstrate primary capabilities as an electrical engineer partnered with a mechanical engineering skillset.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead progress and technical deliverables action items for ongoing design projects
  • Support new product development
  • Coordinate design for manufacturability
  • Coordinate IEEE product testing
  • Troubleshoot, provide failure analysis on defective material
  • Participate in product enhancement and resourcing efforts
  • Communicate with customers regarding specification interpretation/clarification.
  • Initiate and manage engineering changes
  • Design and drawing creation for product parts and assemblies utilizing AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Participate in and, at times, lead Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Must be willing to help with other tasks and assist other team members as needed. 

Skills and Experience


  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in a design or product engineering related field for minimum 6 years.
  • Must have Autodesk experience, with a focus on 3D model generation and Autocad Electrical
  • Demonstrated skillset in C, Python, Java, C++ or Visual Basic
  • Must be able to travel up to 10%.


  • Experience in high voltage switchgear design for 5+ years.
  • Experience with IEEE standards and their testing application
  • Demonstrated design work in product sustainment or new product introduction
