Hubbell's Connectors location in Leeds, AL is seeking a dedicated and experienced Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic team. This hands-on, shop floor-based role is crucial for overseeing and troubleshooting our daily manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will be actively involved in driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing scrap and enhancing productivity, all while managing costs effectively.

A Day In The Life

  • Provide technical leadership and day-to-day oversight of manufacturing processes on the shop floor, including CNC and manual machining, fabrication equipment, presses, robots, core machines, furnaces, and molding machines.
  • Act as a senior-level troubleshooter for complex and recurring process issues, leading root cause analysis and implementing robust corrective and preventive actions to minimize downtime and production losses.
  • Lead and champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, productivity gains, cycle time reduction, yield improvement, and overall cost optimization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, maintenance, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams to design, refine, and standardize manufacturing processes and best practices.
  • Analyze process data, KPIs, and production metrics to identify trends, gaps, and risks; develop and execute data-driven action plans to improve performance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for process capability, control plans, and process validation activities, ensuring alignment with quality and customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards while promoting a strong safety-first culture on the shop floor.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical training to engineers, technicians, and shop floor personnel to elevate process knowledge, problem-solving skills, and operational discipline.
  • Lead the evaluation, justification, and implementation of new equipment, automation, tooling, and manufacturing technologies, including feasibility studies, capital justifications, and ROI analyses.
  • Drive standardization of work instructions, process documentation, and best practices across applicable manufacturing areas.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation to track process performance and improvement initiatives.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (7+ yrs) in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably in a hands-on, shop floor-based capacity.
  • Deep technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, including CNC and manual machining, fabrication equipment, presses, robots, core machines, furnaces, and molding machines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues.
  • Proficient in data analysis and process optimization techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and manufacturing execution systems (MES) is a plus.
