Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a Software Engineering team that designs, develops and sustains products in the area of Protection (Digital Control Relays, Feeder Protection Relays etc.), Communications (WiFi, BLE, SCADA, IEC 61850 etc.) & Teleprotection for electric utilities in the area of Substation Automation, Distribution Switching and Distribution Automation.
  • Responsible for various products such as Digital Control Relays, Feeder Protection Relays, Sub-transmission-level Sectionalizers, Communication Multiplexers, Teleprotection systems along with Distribution-grade products such as Single-Phase Reclosers (15/27 kV), Three-Phase Reclosers (15/27/38kV), Sectionalizers (15/27/38kV), SCADA Gateways etc. from Engineering management, development standpoint.
  • Management responsibilities include designing and developing new products, sustain existing products, handle feature additions/enhancements in existing products, handle field issues, supervise functional testing, plan and manage external lab (Type) testing as per IEEE/IEC standards.
  • Work closely with Product Management, Field Applications Engineering for requirements gathering (VOC), for gathering more information about product related issues, defining new product features etc.
  • Play a critical and substantial role in gathering Requirements and performing detailed-level Requirements breakdown to generate accurate SOW for product enhancements, new product development, and for Value Engineering projects.
  • Provide necessary technical inputs for firmware specific tasks such as - Driver development for ARM processor, kernel migration (e.g. v3. xx to v4. xx), Linux-bring up etc.
  • Own problem-solving in firmware domain on existing and new products. Act with necessary engineering judgement to solve complex, non-trivial technical problems.
  • Understand NPD cycle and software development cycle.
  • 10-15% domestic travel required.

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience with firmware and software development in the area of Protection, Communications and Teleprotection systems for electric utilities (Design, Development and sustaining engineering).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a lead Software/Firmware engineering architect for Linux-based (ARM platform) with complex industrial systems
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience performing detailed breakdown analysis of software/firmware requirements to create development paradigm for the team; and at least 3 years of experience working with a variety of stakeholders as a part of a cross-functional team.
