Job Overview

A Sr. Packaging Design Engineer reports to the VP of Technology for Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure and will lead our packaging design shared service work for our Transmission and Distribution products in the Electric Utility market. They will execute packaging design and procedures work for product development activities in conjunction with business unit engineering teams and engage with the operations packaging teams on implementation.

A Day In The Life

 

  • Primary focus is Electric Utility equipment within Transmission and Distribution
  • All activities are driven in support and aligned with the goals of the business unit engineering teams
  • Execution of packaging design tasks including but not limited to, Packaging CAD, packaging testing and evaluation for new product development activities
  • Perform design for cost, reliability, performance, recyclability, and environmental analysis for packaging designs
  • Develop and implement packaging design procedures for the Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure Strategic Business Unit and align that strategy with the broader Hubbell organization through Hubbell Engineering Leadership
  • Identify and execute on packaging savings opportunities in alignment with business unit productivity plans and goals
  • Organize organizational training and education on product packaging designs for engineers

What will help you thrive in this role?

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Engineering or equivalent STEM discipline
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering and/or medium and high voltage engineering
  • 5-10 years of experience in packaging design
  • Demonstrated capability of CAD and packaging design tools e.g. Solidworks, Autodesk, etc
  • Ability to travel on business related trips – up to 15% of the time
  • Ability to walk around the manufacturing shop floor and lift 50 pounds as needed (part inspection, part fit check, product testing, etc.)
