Position Overview
Manage and provide leadership to product engineering group consisting of Engineers, Drafters, and Designers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support in developing strategic and business plans, including establishing plans for new product development, product line extensions and product cost reduction
- Provide technical guidance and support the Distribution Connectors’ Product Management and Product Engineering teams, as well as managing/designing products and management of projects
- Set staff objectives to support Hubbell business plans
- Ensure staff has appropriate support to accomplish design work and to meet project schedules; recommend training as appropriate to enhance staff skills and more effective contributors
- Prepare and manage annual department operating budgets, as well as support any capex requirements as determined by the Business Unit
- Ensure cost reduction projects are developed and executed
- Manage intellectual property and patent application process for the Business Unit
Skills and Experience
- BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
- 8-10 years of experience in product development: Communications, OEM or Utility industry experience would be helpful but not required
- Solid leadership and communications skills required.
- Strong team player
- Must be able to give hands-on presentations
LEVEL OF DECISION MAKING:
- All technical decisions related to product lines managed and business decisions as delegated by the Business Unit Director
- Ability to travel on business related trips (up to 20% time); ability to move to various locations within the Company; ability to communicate; ability to work on a computer and other related equipment as required; light lifting and physical dexterity also required
