The EC Coordinator acts as a central point of coordination between Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials/Planning, Quality, and Commercial teams, helping ensure engineering changes align with customer commitments, production schedules, material availability, and product quality.

A Day In The Life

Engineering Change Coordination

  • Own the day-to-day coordination and tracking of Engineering Changes for ETO orders.
  • Maintain visibility of open ECs, priorities, responsible owners, required actions, and completion status.
  • Facilitate EC review and disposition with Engineering, Operations, Materials, Quality, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure changes progress from initial request through engineering release and manufacturing implementation.
  • Escalate ECs that threaten customer delivery dates, manufacturing schedules, or material availability.

ETO Order Support

  • Review active ETO orders for engineering changes or documentation issues that could prevent execution.
  • Coordinate resolution of drawing, BOM, specification, configuration, and manufacturing-documentation discrepancies.
  • Work with Planning and Operations to ensure released engineering information is available when required to support manufacturing.
  • Identify changes affecting work already released to production and coordinate appropriate disposition.

Change Impact Management

  • Determine which open orders, components, drawings, BOMs, or production activities may be affected by a proposed engineering change.
  • Coordinate material disposition when changes create obsolete, excess, rework, or replacement material requirements.
  • Ensure downstream stakeholders understand when a change becomes effective.
  • Coordinate implementation timing to minimize disruption to production and customer delivery.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Serve as the communication link between operations and the ETO execution team.
  • Clearly document decisions, owners, required actions, and due dates.
  • Follow up on overdue activities and unresolved dependencies.
  • Communicate high-risk changes to appropriate leadership.

Process & Performance Improvement

  • Develop and maintain EC tracking and reporting.
  • Monitor recurring causes of engineering changes and identify opportunities to reduce preventable changes.
  • Support improvements to ETO engineering-release and change-management processes.
  • Track metrics such as open ECs, aging, overdue actions, implementation cycle time, and ECs affecting production.
  • Help improve engineering-release quality and first-time-right execution.

Measures of Success
