Position Overview
Analyzes a variety of accounting data including financial statements, journal entries, tax returns, etc. Must be proficient in Excel, including macros, and be knowledgeable of advanced accounting and finance according to GAAP and IRS rules. BS/BA degree and 7+ years related experience required. CPA/CMA or MBA preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
- Generates and reviews financial and management reports explaining major variances from budget.
- Prepares balance sheet analysis, reviewing each asset and liability account for accuracy.
- Prepares journal entries for month-end.
- Prepares bank reconciliation for operating account.
- Prepares all year-end reports required by auditors and tax accountants accurately and timely.
- Maintains a written manual of procedures for area of responsibility.
- Keeps all proprietary information confidential.
- Prepares sales tax returns.
- Records Management
- Performs annual internal control audits of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
- Special projects as required.
- Complies with all work rules, including but not limited to, the Company’s safety and attendance policies.
Skills and Experience
Knowledge of advanced accounting and finance including application of generally accepted accounting principles.
• Knowledge of payroll taxes, sales taxes and related laws.
• Familiar with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
• Knowledge of Internal Revenue Service rules on accounting for fixed assets, cost basis, disposed rules, recognition of gain or loss, etc.
• Knowledge of integrated computer system.
• Ability to schedule and prioritize work and multiple tasks.
General and Cost account experience a plus. SAP experience preferred.
Minimum of 7 years’ accounting experience in a computerized environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and write English, interpret documents such as Federal Income Tax Regulations, notices issued by the Internal Revenue Service, state sales tax and unemployment tax rules, Financial Accounting Standards as well as auditors interpretations thereof. Ability to write clear procedures for accounting and payroll areas. Ability to create/write own correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with technical support reps and the auditors concerning payroll and accounting regulations. Able to interface effectively with other departments.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Facility with numbers and computerized mathematical models and systems and computerize general accounting systems.
REASONING SKILLS Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles to situations arising at Beckwith. Ability to interpret complex tax laws to apply to Beckwith. Problem solving ability.
TECHNICAL AND OFFICE SKILLS Experienced with all Microsoft Office products including advanced spreadsheet application. Key by touch and data entry.
