Job Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key technical leader responsible for elevating product design, manufacturing support, and engineering standards. This role provides sustaining engineering support to manufacturing operations, external vendors, and customers, while guiding the design and drafting team to ensure consistent application of drawing standards. The Senior Mechanical Engineer also supports custom designs and new product development, contributing innovative solutions that meet customer and business needs. Additionally, this position oversees product enhancements and modifications through the Engineering Change Order process, ensuring product quality, reliability, and continuous improvement across the organization.

A Day In The Life

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - other duties may be assigned 

  • Designs products using DFM (Design for Manufacturability) methods.
  • Configures designs to be efficiently produced with a wide range of customer options.
  • Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet performance requirements for new or improved products.
  • Investigate solutions to product or process problems.
  • Ensures that all information on the drawings is clearly and accurately presented, so that the procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, and inspection can be accomplished smoothly in order to provide the highest quality and lowest cost product for our customers.
  • Interfaces with vendors/design-builders to resolve problems and design issues.
  • Consults with other research and development team members to clarify or resolve problems.
  • Capable of preparing three-dimensional mechanical layouts in Solidworks software which can be translated into production drawings.
  • Prepare and revise BOM structures.
  • Create and release engineering drawings and documents using PLM systems.
  • Update item masters in ERP.
  • Comply with all work rules, including but not limited to, the Company’s safety and attendance policies.
  • Assist Creative Technical Solutions with NPI process and documentation.
  • Coordinate modifications by reviewing proposals of customer requirements, determine if proposals are feasible and estimate proposal costs.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
  • Capable of performing tolerance studies to ensure mechanical fits and avoid mechanical interferences.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of industry standards such as UL specifications regarding safety and testing requirements.
  • Conducts design reviews with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and marketing on new product designs.
  • Safely handles products or equipment in order to prevent injury to handler or damage to product.

Qualifications, Skills and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. MSME preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical design.
  • A thorough knowledge in electrical/mechanical field of OEM equipment.
  • Should be familiar with estimating techniques and budget control.
  • Rack Mount Cabinet design.
  • Proficient in the use of computer aided design tools: AutoCAD and Solidworks.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T principles.
  • Ability to multi-task in an evolving project environment.
  • Strong customer focus, both internal and external.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to apply mathematical skills to perform tolerance studies.
  • Ability to perform a load analysis.
