The Senior Software Engineer develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products.  
 

A Day In The Life

Every day at Hubbell is different and you’ll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you’ll make a difference by: 

  • Develop, design, test, maintain, and enhance Aclara’s Software Solutions.
  • Analyze software requirements for feasibility and implementation strategy.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reliable software applications written in high level languages (Java, C# or other object-oriented technologies) and modern technologies under minimal guidance. Follow full Software Development Life Cycle for each project.
  • Help business development by serving as SME for products and services.
  • Develop software frameworks, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Escalate issues in a timely manner and provide mitigation recommendations for the same. Respond to customer escalations and maintain existing software code, refactoring as needed to provide highly reliable software solutions.
  • Document all newly developed code, code modifications, and issue resolutions.
  • Present application solution architecture when necessary.
  • Work closely with cross functional team including quality assurance and documentation with a focus on team success.
  • Help maintain code quality, build and test automation.
  • Ensure deadlines are met.
  • Design and implement user-space system services for Linux/Unix, building secure, high-performance telemetry collection, protocol adapters. Build and integrate communication stacks using RESTful APIs. Implement authentication/authorization, enforce secure transport and credential handling, and conduct design reviews to harden services and device interactions.
  • Develop unit/integration tests, API validation, and maintain build/test automation for embedded/edge components and service integrations.
  • This is a hybrid position; may work from home up to 2 days per week, as permitted.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field and at least 5 years of progressive experience working as a Software Engineer or in a related role.
  • At least 5 years of experience with object-oriented software development, web application development and rest services.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in Linux/Unix environments.
  • At least 5 years of experience with application frameworks (such as Spring or Hibernate).
  • At least 5 years of experience with databases such as SQLServer, MySQL or similar.
  • At least 5 years of experience with object-oriented programming such as Java, C# (including ecosystems), concepts of MVC, JDBC, and Restful, GUI frameworks, and concurrency patterns in Java.
  • At least 2 years of utility domain experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP, HTTP or similar) and edge communication technologies, telemetry/event pipelines with tools such as Kafka (or equivalent).
