Position Overview

The Engineer role will be responsible for Connector Manufacturing Company (CMC) product engineering activities within current ISO requirements, safety requirements, and good housekeeping standards. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams on new product design or product revisions. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review, create, and oversee issuance of part drawings.
  • Develop and calculate quote information for new and revised parts.
  • Work with Sales & Marketing on new product design or product revisions.  Travel may be required.
  • Develop project deliverables and timelines based on requirements provided by Sales & Marketing.
  • Work with departmental engineers to develop ETO or NPD products.
  • Ability to start up development initiatives, define work scope, breakdown and completes product development projects within a timely basis (gates-approval management).
  • Enter and revise the following within SAP environment:
    •     Item Master information
    •     Bill of materials
    •     Routings
  • Work Center information
  • Write, review and approve Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
  • Review and evaluate vendor and customer drawings.
  • Maintain engineering part files with any customer part cross references.
  • Lead concurrent Product Development Teams or Engineering Design Teams.
  • Lead research for new concepts or processes for product development.
  • Mentor other departmental engineers to develop their leadership abilities.
  • Other related duties as directed by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily and meet the physical demands to successfully perform the essential function of this job.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or physical ability required. At CMC’s discretion, exceptions to these can be made to accommodate individual circumstances.   
  • Education and/or Experience – Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 6+ years’ experience in design, development, maintenance and testing of mechanical and/or electrical devices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the interpretation of design, performance, and standards relevant to the electrical industry in the form of product designs released to production in manufacturing settings.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Ability to interact and work effectively to achieve common goals with other departments including supply chain, operations, manufacturing, sales, and marketing.
  • Effectively present information and work with the department manager, individual salespeople, customers, and factory floor/support personnel.


Preferred Skills:

  • Language Skills - Good communication skills are key.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  
  • Mathematical Skills- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Experience working with consolidations.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Need to be able to exercise good judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have typical spreadsheet, CAD & Word knowledge.
  • Other Skills and Abilities - Must be detail oriented. Must be organized and have the ability and drive to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
