Position Overview

Hubbell is seeking a hardworking and creative problem solver to tackle a variety of project work for the Indoor Commercial Engineering group. In this role you will be a flexible team member involved in New Product Development (NPD) projects and Sustaining efforts.

On NPD projects, you will be engaged in the complete product development life cycle, from product concept to deployment in the field. You will collaborate regularly with Product Managers and other Engineering team members to understand the business needs and propose/develop complete solutions. You may be the prime engineer on large development projects, where you will own the complete effort and advise certain engineering work to others, as needed.

On Sustaining projects, you will manage the cost reduction efforts for the group, which includes project identification, savings analysis, project kickoff and leadership, monthly evaluation and reporting to upper management. As needed, you will also participate in inventory reductions and product discontinuations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability.
  • Utilize SAP, including bill of material creation and variant configurator input for modular bill of material management.
  • Utilize NPD process and tools to deliver new products, on time, within specification.
  • Lead and supervise cost reduction projects for the group.
  • Request and evaluate testing (thermal, photometric, rain, dust) as needed for third party certification (UL, CSA, DLC, etc.).
  • Coordinate regularly with Product Managers and Brand Engineering.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers to help develop their skills and capabilities.
  • Address technical feasibility questions from customers, product management, manufacturing, and others as needed.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or closely-related subject area.
  • Design experience of parts and assemblies using glass, polycarbonate/acrylic lenses, optical quality aluminum, extruded aluminum, cast aluminum, injection molded plastics, or fabricated steel.
  • Demonstrated experience leading others in a product development environment.
  • Possesses personality traits consistent with those in leadership positions.
  • Proficiency in at least one (1) CAD package (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: listening, oral, and written.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with Commercial and Industrial lighting.
* Low volume, high mix manufacturing experience.
* SAP ERP system experience desirable.
* Knowledge of certification requirements for both indoor and outdoor lighting.
